About
Tucked inside Clark Hall on the San Jose State campus, International Gateways has been ushering foreign students into California higher education since 1975. It functions less as a stand-alone language school and more as an academic on-ramp: its flagship English to University Studies Pathway parks students at San Francisco State's EAP program for two to four months of English instruction before transferring them - I-20 and all - onto SJSU for a semester or two of undergraduate credit. Completion at a B+ average waives the TOEFL requirement for continued admission, which is the real product being sold here.
What distinguishes the office is its Silicon Valley footprint. Beyond the pathway, International Gateways runs Semester at SJSU for degree-seeking exchange students, a Summer in Silicon Valley program, custom executive and academic packages, and - most notably - certified courses through the NVIDIA Deep Learning Institute, a partnership few university-based ESL units can claim. The advising is high-touch, covering housing, health insurance, and pre- and post-arrival logistics.
This is not a boutique language academy for casual learners. Prospective students should arrive ready to test into an academic English track and commit to the university calendar; those looking for short conversational courses or an intensive general English school will be better served elsewhere. For F-1 candidates aiming at a US undergraduate transcript with a Silicon Valley address, the value proposition is clear.

International Gateways provides pretty good environment to practise English. Multi level English classes (from 300-700 usually) are provided every season. Teachers here are so professional and friendly, they always try their best to deliver English knowledge, and U.S cultures as well. So proud of being a part of IG programs.
International Gateway is not only offers a course that helps you prepare for the TOEFL exam, but it also provides exceptional support for international students to adjust to the academic environment and culture of the United States. IG is the best place for international students because you not only have the chance to learn English in a professional environment but also have the chance to experience new things and have time to adjust to the American lifestyle. The teachers are great. They have profound knowledge and experience with international students. They are good at teaching and also best at understanding what students need. They are always willing to help with any problems. I feel thankful for everything for the time I studied here.
