ELS Language Centers - San Francisco/North Bay (Dominican University of California)
ELS's Marin County outpost pairs intensive English instruction with full run of Dominican University's leafy campus, twelve miles from the Golden Gate.
About
Tucked into the palm-lined campus of Dominican University of California, this ELS center offers something rare among American language schools: a genuinely residential university experience at a quieter remove from the big-city grind. Students live in Pennafort and Fanjeaux Halls, cross the same quads as degree-seeking undergraduates, and have free access to the gym, playing fields, and library. The setting is deliberately pastoral, tucked into the Marin County hills, but San Francisco proper sits just a dozen miles south across the Golden Gate Bridge, keeping weekend life brisk.
The academic offer is the standard ELS ladder, refined over sixty years of practice: Intensive and Semi-Intensive English tracks, a Super Intensive option for students pushing hard toward TOEFL or IELTS, and a well-known 2+2 Pathway that funnels graduates directly into partner universities without a separate TOEFL score. American Explorer courses lean into the tourist-and-language hybrid, while English for Executives handles the business crowd. Class ceilings are held to eighteen, with a working average closer to a dozen.
What distinguishes the North Bay location within the ELS network is the seriousness of the university partnership. Once students reach ELS level 109, they can audit and eventually enroll in Dominican courses concurrently, effectively test-driving American higher education before committing. It is a program built for the ambitious international student who wants campus life without the anonymity of a mega-university.

I love our campus very much. It has a beautiful environment. The ELS course is very practical, the class is reasonable and interesting, and the teacher is very responsible. There are different activities to participate in every day after class, which makes our study and life diverse and colorful. There are students from all over the world, providing a more immersive language learning environment.
I really like to study in this place, very magical place with a lot of nature, the teachers are very friendly, they have a good energy and knowledge. Also the academic staff are really helpful. The city is a good place for students and when you want something more energetic you can go to San Francisco I hope come back soon.
ELS Language Center San Francisco North Bay is located in a peaceful campus surrounded by beautiful nature that truly enchants the soul. It’s not too far from the city; with a half-hour bus ride, you can easily reach downtown. The teachers and all the staff are incredibly kind, considerate, and outstanding in their work. Thanks to their support, I feel a little more improved every day. I stayed at Villa Inn, a motel about a 15-minute walk from the school. Walking through nature every day was like therapy for me. If you prefer a single room, there’s an extra fee; I chose this option and was truly satisfied. The weekly activities were also a special part of this experience. The attention given to these events provides excellent opportunities for both socializing and personal growth. I am sincerely grateful for every moment spent at this school; endless thanks to everyone 🙌🏻😊🙏🏻
