Housed within the peaceful countryside of Epworth, Iowa, the Intensive English Language Institute (IELI) at Divine Word College offers a unique environment for language acquisition. As the only Roman Catholic seminary college in the United States dedicated to preparing students for missionary service, the college provides a deeply community-oriented backdrop. Despite its seminary roots, the CEA-accredited language program warmly welcomes students of all faith traditions who are looking to improve their English proficiency for academic, professional, or personal growth.
The curriculum is highly structured, offering an intensive eight-level progression from beginner to advanced levels. With exceptionally small class sizes ranging from just five to ten students, learners receive highly personalized attention from dedicated instructors holding advanced degrees. This classroom instruction is supplemented by one-on-one tutoring with local volunteers and an active English Conversation Partner Program designed to foster both language skills and cross-cultural friendships.
Students can choose between full-time and part-time tracks, with multiple eight-week terms running throughout the year, alongside a shorter summer session. Because the program offers on-campus housing and dining, international students can enjoy a fully immersive, supportive, and intercultural community experience.
